This year’s Mexican Open was a send off to Romanian legend, Catalina Ponor. To compete all around, 3 events were only required. The Romanian specialist took advantage of this competing all event but bars and ultimately winning the silver. She performed clean but watered down routines on vault beam and floor, beating Olympian from Russia, Angelina Melnikova. Ponor’s scores are as follows:
Vault/ 13.95 with a Yurchenko full
Beam/ 13.85 with some wobbles but a bit set. The highest score of the meet on a non-vaulting event.
Floor/ 12.5 with a low difficulty for the last competitive routine of her career.
Catalina has had an amazing career winning many medals at world championships and competing in the 2004,2012, and 2016 Olympic Games. She is a legend and will continue to be remembered as one. We wish her luck in whatever it is she chooses to do next!! 🙂 Thanks a lot for reading and stay tuned for more!
