U.S. Picks Up 5 Medals at Worlds

Considering the lack of depth compared to previous years on this year’s U.S. team, the States closed out worlds with a rather successful medal count. The medals earned are as follows:

Men –

Yul Moldauer: 3rd Place Floor

Women –

Morgan Hurd: 1st All Around

Morgan Hurd: 2nd Beam

Jade Carey: 2nd Floor

Jade Carey: 2nd Vault

A pleasant surprise for Yul as people we’re going as far as telling him he should drop out of the final because he couldn’t medal and that Eddie should compete. Also a nice little surprise for Morgan as she was the lone all around for the U.S. after her teammate, Ragan Smith, who was favored to win fell injured causing her to withdraw from all around and floor finals. Jade Carey was expected to medal after showing strong vault and floor performances at P&Gs and camp but it’s nice for her as this is her international debut and first year elite. Unfortunate showings from Donnell Whittenburg as he possible could have medaled but had some uncontrolled power on floor landings. Alex Naddour just missed a medal, landing in 4th in pommel. Ashton Locklear of the U.S. showed a beautiful bar routine in qualifications but faltered in finals possible due to a shoulder injury. Congrats to the whole United States team on conquering the many obstacles of Montreal 2017!
