Danna Durante Bids Farewell To Georgia Gymdogs

For more than a decade, the University of Georgia has been known for consistently providing one of the most prestigious gymnastics programs. However, the past couple of years, Georgia has struggled. It has been eight whole years since the Gymdogs last took home a national championship win. And in those eight years, this team has been through three different coaches. Struggling to find a balance between the perfect coach for this team, Georgia begins it’s search again after former head coach, Danna Durante, was let go. In hopes of returning to their former state of dominance, Georgia will begin a nationwide search for their new head coach promptly. As athletic director, Greg McGarity, put it during the school’s release that stated the decision:

“We will move forward with a national search as quickly as possible to fill the head coaching position for our gymnastics team.”

It is for sure clear that the gymnastics program has appreciated all that Durante has done for them, however, it is time for the school to find the best fit for their program at the time (as what they are calling, a “restructuring of the team” as they also recently let go of three gymnasts that recently competed for their team). Some of Danna’s best achievements throughout her career at the University of Georgia are stated below:

  • She took the team to three Super Six – NCAA Finals during her five season career.
  • Durante led the team to a regional win in 2015, which was the 24th in program history.
  • She coached two gymnasts to national champion wins in 2016.
  • Danna held the team to remain as one of the steadier, stronger, teams in the SEC, consistently qualifying to the evening session of the championships.
  • In her second season as head coach, she led the team to their best national finish since their win in 2009.
  • Her 2014 team posted a score of 197.000 or higher in every single home meet of the year.

Congratulations to Danna Durante on a successful career at Georgia, we wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors!!
