Netherland Gymnastics Team Makes History

Update: I JUST RECENTLEY READ THAT THIS IS ACTUALLY THE FIRST TIME THAT THE NETHERLANDS HAS QUALIFIED TO THE OLYMPICS IN 40 YEARS (not ever)!

As of October 24th, the Netherlands women’s gymnastics team has qualified to the team final at the world gymnastics championships this year. They have also qualified to the Olympics next year. This is the first time they have ever done so. This year they have a very strong team. They qualified to the team final in 8th, the final position. Lieke Wevers qualified in 6th to the all around final. Eythora Thorsdottir is a reserve for the all around final. Eythora also qualified to the balance beam final. Lieke is a reserve for the bars and floor final as well. Sanne Wevers (Lieke’s twin) qualified in 2nd to the balance beam final. Well, the men’s team didn’t do nearly as well, they still had a sturdy qualification round. The Netherlands is one of my favorite gymnastics teams right now and I can’t wait to see them compete throughout the rest of the week. 🙂

Also, I’ve decided to do a live blog of the event finals (on my backup blog) of this year’s worlds so stay tuned on my backup blog for more…
